My husband is going for cancer surgery in about 10 days and we are so nervous. Today, when I couldn't think of anyway to bring him out of his depression nor me out of mine, it occurred to me to go back and see if I still had the recording of your "Carry On" performance from The Voice. We sat in our living room and watched it and then we skipped back to the beginning, cranked it up LOUD, and got our old bodies moving as we watched it again...this time dancing and loving the inspiration of your beautiful voice "carrying" the message to us. Will, I found some old photos I'd taken of your father when he was playing with the Rhythm Dukes in Santa Cruz (after "The Sons of Champlin" and "The Sons". If you are interested, I can scan them and send them in an email to you, if there is an email address I can use. I should also mention that I asked him to perform in a benefit concert for a youth drop-in center where I worked in Davis, CA back in 1970-ish. He generously agreed and performed for us. His band was Yogi Phlegm. They don't make names like that anymore, do they? BTW: I was so proud of your performances this year on The Voice. You have an amazing voice and will be hugely successful. Hey Will, I never watched The Voice before this season. Never wanted to. But my husband was watching and there was nothing else to do, so... The first thing I saw when I sat down was Carson announcing that you were going to perform Secrets. I was not happy and was very skeptical. "How could anyone but One Republic do that song justice?" I said to my husband. Then you began singing and I was covered with goosebumps. You not only did it justice, you made it SO MUCH MORE. From that moment on I was glued to The Voice and couldn't miss an episode. I soon found that every song you sang, and put your own spin on, only made it better than the original. In most cases you made me hear and FEEL the song for the first time. I voted for you and told everyone I know to vote for you, but it wasn't to be. I'm disappointed you didn't win, but even more disappointed in Adam for the comment he made. I'm sure you know which one. He was coach to both of you and he clearly showed favoritism. Shame on him. It was totally unprofessional. I hope, hope, hope you will be able to put an album out. Just get it on iTunes and I'll buy it. LOL I've not been this taken with a voice for a long time. Words are tossed around and overused sometimes to the extent that they lose their meaning, but I just want to tell you that your voice - and your overall talent - is awesome and amazing. I am 50 years old and have a extremely wide and diverse taste in music. I grew up listening to all the songs my sister (12 years older) was listening to...the Beatles, Stones, Elvis, Tom Jones, Brazil 66, Herb Albert...you name it. Then I grew up jr. High and High School years in the 70s & 80s which I think produced some of the best and original music (and voices) of the century. No matter what the genre, if I detect a great voice, I want to hear more. Will, YOU have a voice that stands out as completely unique with a huge range. Your version of At Last gives me goosebumps no matter how many times I listen to it! And your live performances have been truly remarkable. I can't tell you how many concerts I have been to over the decades in which great singers just don't sound so great live. Not so in your case! I commend you on the focus it takes to accomplish this. As I am writing this, I am still feeling the shock and disappointment in Adam's Monday night comment on how Tessanne was the best and the clear winner. What sort of coach verbalizes these things while still coaching another? VERY TACKY. Anyway, now that the "contest" is over, the real contest begins...your business of bringing your GREAT voice and music to as many people who will enjoy it. I think your style is MUCH MORE diverse than both the other final two and I look forward to hearing some fantastic stuff from you. I am hoping many people in the music business loved what they heard from you and will help you get on your way to the top where you belong. Ps. I am so old school, I still buy CDs (many of my favorite songs are the ones in between the hits that you would never know about without the cd) and never have bought a song on iTunes....yours was the first!! Hi Will. You're awesome. Love the intensity you bring to every song you sing. I can really feel the pain and anguish--especially when you sang "When I Was Your Man."
